AMBER-Dawn Bear Robe

Amber-Dawn Bear Robe (Siksika Nation) is a curator and art historian specializing in Indigenous fashion, with work that explores the dynamic intersections of Indigenous art, fashion, and design. She is an Assistant Professor of Native & Indigenous Art History and Material Culture in the Art and Design History and Theory department at Parsons School of Design, The New School.

From 2012 to 2025, Bear Robe curated and produced Native fashion shows in Santa Fe, New Mexico, helping to elevate Indigenous designers on national and international stages. She previously taught Native art history and Indigenous fashion in the Museum Studies Department at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). She serves on the Editorial Board of Dress: The Journal of the Costume Society of America and is an International Ambassador for the International Indigenous Fashion Council.

Bear Robe has curated major exhibitions and publications, including Future Imaginaries: Indigenous Art, Fashion, Technology at the Autry Museum of the American West and the forthcoming Always in Fashion (Textiles Museum of Canada, 2026). Her recent fashion programming includes Future Imaginaries: Indigenous Art, Fashion, Technology at the Autry Museum of the American West (September 7, 2024–June 21, 2026) and PST ART x The Autry: Fashioning Indigenous Futurism, a runway show presented at the Getty on September 30, 2024.

Her work has been recognized with Regional Emmy Awards in 2020 and 2021 for producing documentary short films highlighting Indigenous fashion designers. She is also a recipient of the Canadian Arts & Fashion Changemaker Award.
