Arctic Luxe
BY Bobby Brower
ARCTIC LUXE is an Indigenous-owned, women-led clothing and accessory brand founded in 2010 by Bobby Brower, an Inupiaq artist from Anchorage, Alaska. An enrolled member of the Native Village of Barrow tribe in Utqiagvik, Brower was immersed in traditional skin sewing from a young age, learning the craft at 13. Raised in a family of subsistence hunters, her passion for skin sewing was further nurtured by her aunt Florence, who encouraged her to pursue it after high school. This led to Brower’s participation in the traditional 4th of July baby contest, marking the beginning of her artistic journey.
Over time, Brower honed her skills and founded ARCTIC LUXE, creating handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces and ready-to-wear collections. Her work has gained acclaim at events across Alaska, New Mexico, Canada, and New York. In addition to fashion, Brower has expanded into wardrobe design for television and commercials, as well as art exhibits. Through virtual and in-person classes, she teaches traditional techniques, preserving and promoting cultural heritage. ARCTIC LUXE celebrates Brower's dedication to her craft and Inupiaq roots, blending traditional artistry with contemporary design to inspire pride in Indigenous cultures and empower future generations.
